Kentucky’s Connie Dungs were one of the very best pop punk bands of the 1990s. It was fascinating seeing them morph from fun, sophomoric comedy to dark, brooding complexity over the course of their six now-classic albums and multiple EPs. The front-man, Brandon Tussey, has a singularly bizarre nasal voice that definitively brings the snot into snotty. Forming from the ashes of the Connie Dungs was A Radio With Guts, an even darker band with songs focusing almost exclusively on themes of hopelessness, despair, and suicide. Beat Heart Sweet Stereo remains one of this millennium’s greatest albums to date, a mind-numbingly potent emo-pop record that manages to uplift despite its surface message of heartbreak. A Radio With Guts recorded a second full length that remains unreleased. Brandon Tussey, like the late Lance Hahn, is one of the most prolific punk songwriters, constantly churning out new material. Outfitted for the Apocalypse represents his first album without a backup band, with Tussey playing all of the instruments. The guitars are noisier than any on his prior releases, but it still has the signature late-Dungs/ARWG dark Tussey touch that his fans adore. The lyrics aren’t all doom and gloom, although there’s still a fair amount of musing on death and suicide. The songwriting is stellar throughout and the intentionally noisy mix gives the Jawbreaker-inspired pop a sense of unease and aggression. Tussey’s lovably odd voice shines through on each track, with tinges of chilling sweetness underneath the snot. Tussey outdoes himself with his most mature recording to date. “I Am a Sick Man” is my favorite track, with lyrics taken from two different translations of the opening sentences of Dostoyevsky’s Notes from the Underground. There’s even a redo of the ARWG song “Spiders across the Stars,” featured here with a crazy, wonderfully chaotic remix that highlights the uniqueness of this album. Self-released with beautifully hand-done covers, Outfitted for the Apocalypse is far and away the standout release of the year. –....Art Ettinger

Biography
History of LBRO:
Lyin' Bitch & the Restraining Orders were conceived out of an unholy marriage of skatin', drinkin' and love of punk music. Being fueled creatively for our contempt and down right hatred for all the music that most Denver punk bands had put out in the past and present. As a result, a new & inovative punk band was birthed into the scene. 1/2 of the band name (Restraining Orders) came to us after an all night drinking binge at a Halloween party. And the Lyin' Bitch part of the name, well, that was givin' to us by a girlfriend of mine at the time. We now had a name, the 4 members and a practice space at local spot for shows and skating known as the Fallen Skate Warehouse (r.i.p). 5 Months later we had our first gig with Hobnail Stompers (r.i.p.) at the Lion's Lair here in Denver. Later down the line the 4 of us took on two hired guns that would melt into the Lyin' Bitch fabric and we would become 6 members. A few of those members have been weeded out since. The fat has been cut out and we're pressing on for bigger and better opportunities.

LBRO Resume:
Established as a band in June 2003. We were ready to nake killer punk songs and hit the trail. But just like most bands the road has been a rough one and has strengthened us as a band. The band have been on two 10 day tours in which we played in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico. We have also taken 3 weekend long tours and have gone to Minneapolis, Des Moines, Las Vegas (2 times), Albuquerque. In that time we have put a 15 song CD entitled "Bestiality Prevents Teen Pregnancy" which is distroed through Interpunk & Midhaven Records. The CD is also carried at local record stores here in Denver such as Wax Trax, Independent and Twist & Shout. As well as, have song in the Skate Colorado video and have a song an a tribute to GG Allin CD on Husk records. We have many many shows here in Denver from small dive bar & warehouses to venues that hold 800 people. Opening for national/international acts such as:
Duane Peter's Gunfight, The Adicts, Vibrators, Dr. Know, Conflict, UK. Looking like something ejected from an Exploited show yet delivering music reminiscent of Venom’s heyday, Bludwulf’s latest effort, Cryptic Revelations, is more than just an homage to the heyday of dirty, evil-embracing thrash metal. Blending elements of Show No Mercy-era Slayer, in terms of an eerie, hollow recording and a relentless double-bass barrage, with Kreator’s voracious attack and Sodom’s gritty substance, songs such as “The Horror,” “Slaughtered Lamb” and “Night Breed” reek of danger as much as they do hilarity. Occasionally the band’s desire to deliver low-end chugging and demonic presence surpass their ability and tracks feel more juvenile than Bludwulf would assumedly hope. However, with so much heart put forth, it’s all incredibly entertaining. Cryptic Revelations may be the aspiring little brother to Municipal Waste’s Hazardous Mutation but should it catch up to their accomplishments thrash metal may return to stay. (Charged)

Makeup – lipstick, rouge and eyeliners – are usually used to cover blemishes, enhance natural beauty and, in short, make things look a lot better than they really are. Luckily, The Eyeliners don’t need any of the flaw-hiding properties that their cosmetic counterpart implies, as Sealed with a Kiss is pretty enough as it is au natural.

Although the band’s power-pop trio blueprint isn’t any sort of new development in the musical landscape, The Eyeliners jump headlong into toe-tapping and effluent melodies to make this record a popper. Although the trio has more punk in its formula than most of the all-girl pop-punk acts that’ve made a name for themselves, Sealed with a Kiss is still primarily a pop album first and foremost. With a sound that’s one part Ramones, one part Go-Go’s and one part all its own, The Eyeliners mix up a style that’s simple, yet effective. Grizzly, distorted guitars put a layer of punk-rock energy into hum-along melodies while a trio of female vocals give the band just enough pizzazz to keep it from falling into the slop-punk gutters. Whether the act tears through a number with all the abandon of a pure punk outfit even though it carries along a hooky tune ("Bad Luck Charm") or pumps out a tune with a full-on rhythm attack ("Too Good to Be True"), it doesn’t pull any punches with its pop zest.

Sealed with a Kiss doesn’t let its pop intentions get in the way of its punk ends, though it also keeps the band from getting much of a sense of identity out of its tunes. Although there’s nothing objectionable about the band’s songs, there’s no personal flash, so stamp of EYELINERS on each song: they rock, but they’re nearly anonymous. In addition, there’s little variation in any of the band’s tunes, and no matter how sharp its full-bore pop attack is, it becomes too much of a good thing halfway through the record.

Fans of pop punk in the vein of The Ramones will pick up on The Eyeliners more than those who gravitate toward the girlie power pop of acts such as The Muffs. There’s not enough broad appeal for an Eyeliner revolution, but punks with a pop streak are sure to appreciate the act’s sound.

The Pinkerton Thugs - End Of An Era

"These six-strings can be bullets/If you’ve got something to say," sings Paul Russo in "Another Story." It’s pretty clear the Pinkerton Thugs have come to the table with thousands of rounds on End of an Era.

It’s pretty easy for a punk act to get by with half-hearted, regurgitated cries of pseudo-rebellion. After all, how long can a movement live on in the underground and purposefully sever all ties to mainstream culture before it’s painfully clear its members don’t want revolution, they want an escapist fantasy world? To take on the outside world, it takes a set of eyes and a vision that’s about as far removed from the punk scene’s love of its status quo and lip-service rebellion as G.G. Allin was from decency.

The Pinkerton Thugs are of the increasingly rare vintage of punk acts that aren’t in it for the scene camaraderie, the thrill of rebellion or the adolescent need to break from tradition. The band is punk for one reason, and one reason alone: that’s the place for it. There was never a time the Thugs decided to become a punk band, it just happened on its own. That musical honesty is clear throughout this album, as the Thugs deliver an album with so much energy and conviction it almost erases the memory of all the riffraff bands that have sullied the punk title over the past 25 years.

There’s a hearty distrust and dislike for the machinery that punk rock originally lashed out at years ago. Social institutions, cultural customs and, of course, capitalism are put in the pillory on this album, as the Pinkerton Thugs bridle the discontent and disillusionment of the marginalized masses with power and honesty. Whether the band paints a gruff picture of blue-collar clock-punching ("Factory Life"), decries the oppressive weight of the cost of living ("No Heroes No Justice") or bemoans the sorry state of youth violence ("The Times"), it’s clear the band has something to say on this album. With a strikingly personal eulogy ("I Remember"), the Thugs show they aren’t just a propaganda machine, but sensitive humans as well.

There’s not a whole lot of room left to explore new ideas in the framework of punk music, a fact that meets the Thugs head on with this album. While there’s nothing to complain about with the band’s grimy street punk, it doesn’t do much to break from the crowd. While the folk rendition of "Youth" shows the band isn’t locked into its punk-rock style, there’s not enough on End of an Era to make this record do much musically.

Friendly People is the second album by the Huntington Beach, California punk rock band Guttermouth, released in 1994 by Nitro Records. It was the first release for the label, which was founded by Dexter Holland of The Offspring. The album continued the band's style of fast, abrasive punk rock with tongue-in-cheek humor and sarcastic lyrics.

The release of Friendly People gained Guttermouth supporting slots on national and world tours with bands such as the Offspring. During these tours the band developed a reputation for chaos and outrageous behavior, resulting in their being banned and blacklisted from several tours and venues. The most famous of these incidents included the band being banned for several years from performing in Canada on charges of public indecency due to onstage nudity in Saskatoon, and singer Mark Adkins' arrest for "assault with a deadly weapon" after using his onstage microphone to incite a near-riot during a show in San Bernardino.

With only a few days of notice producer Marty Munsch (Known for U.S. Chaos, The Narcotics, L.E.S. Stitches, Violent Society, One Way System, Less Than Jake) packed his things and descended in to Alexandria and the bands hold out; a small upper middle class suburb of Washington D.C. to produce what would be one of the most prolific and seminal punk albums of the late 20th Century outside the notable Discord Record label. He entered The "Inner-Ear" studios that were host to MINOR THREAT, THE SNAKES, SCREAM, DAG NASTY, and a few STEVE ALBINI efforts.
Marty Munsch laced into the owner Don Z and demanded that the doors to the facility will be stitch-welded shut to Steve Albini or NIRVANA influences and until the band collapsed from sleep deprivation. He also refused to have any acquaintances with the previous audition / demo style sounds of "Voice of America".
Working only with an old low-grade FOSTEX 16 Track recorder, He boosted the tape speed off the "fixed" position to "vary" and hammered out and created the legends that would be known for eternity as: "THE SUSPECTS".

2.(After disbanning 1997) Why the Suspects are bound to be big: 5

The pride of the D.C. punk scene, New Dawn is the Suspects second album. With smashing vocalist Brian Gayton, and producer/drummer Kent Stax leading the way for a rejuvinated and aggressive style in the Old School punk scene, the Suspects can't fail. Their honesty comes shining through on "From the heart", and they bring back a Ramones-esque sound to punk in the title track "New Dawn In The 21st Century." With classic moshing ballads as Eads Street Punks and Pistol Whipped, the Suspects are bound to be either really big in the punk scene or they are bound to suffer the same fate as The Misfits -becoming one of the most underappriciated bands in the punk scene. This album is not for the weak of heart or crackheads who listen to the new school crap alternative that they like to label punk. This is thinking mans music, its fast and its aggressive, something the scene has lacked lately. If you are in need of something to get you riled up, look no further.

"New Dawn Of The 21st Century" Much controversy again surrounded this release by the ill fated DC Suspect (torque records) hailing from Washington DC. Within the year 1996 Marty Munsch intended on releasing a split single between Violent Society and The DC Suspects. What allegedly ensued was a falter of opinions between Munsch and a band. The outcome was one of the artists involved on the single (Chris Condyan), supposedly manipulating the other involved party to rescind from their involvement of the single release of the underscored split single. This fell alongside with the synchronization of the LP In regards to "New Dawn Of The 21st Century", Munsch was invited to produce the Suspects session at Inner Ear studios. Cut and dry, the session went and then Munich's' name was dropped to the engineer slot from producer in order to avoid an injunction through legal channels due to the situation at hand. Marty Munsch actually did fully produce and co-engineer the album with Mike Davis. All the work involved with the studio setup to guitar, amplifier, combo, mike placement and localization of equipment had occurred. The only incident removing Munsch From the production was the printing on the album sleeve. Kent Stacks (Drummer from D.C 1980's Discord band Scream) ironically was asked for his ear and was named as producer to cover the slot and space the integrity of the recording was obviously comprimised, although the higher quality and origional private stock 1", 2 track masters does exist and is around in a new Jersey bank safety deposit box.

Records like this show that flogging the supposedly dead horse of 77-style punk really can be worthwhile. This record is just awesome. There really isn’t a bad song on the disk. It’s as if some British transplants in New York watched Social Distortion, the Sex Pistols, Sham-69, and the Ramones and decided to start a band. L.E.S Stitches write great snotty punk songs while tossing in bits of DC hardcore, So. Cal. Punk, Scared of Chaka, and a hell of a lot of phlegm. There are as many musical nods in here as there are footnotes in T.S. Eliott’s “Wasteland.” Easily one of the best records I have ever been asked to review. This is the complete collection of all the works of this essential Seattle Anarcho-Crust band. Included are three unreleased track, one live from the bands second show ever (it shows but it is good to hear), an alternate version of Blinded By Darkness, and the completely unreleased song Straight Jacket. Includes everything from the demo, the first two seven inches, the splits with Toxic Narcotic, Brother Inferior, Mark Bruback and all the compliation tracks. The songs are fully remastered and sound amazingly powerful. An amazing band representing a time before most political bands played grind in short angry bursts. Just in time for their extended European tour together with Sonny Vincent (not as an opening band, but as his touring band), the Safety Pins come up with a nice bastard of a new album. "Shake And Spew" gives us the Full Monty - too much alcohol and drugs, a decent fuck u too Attitude, a kick into yer family jewels, a bitter grin or two and a decent measure of one night stands. Again the Safety Pins reach 100mph within seconds and strictly refuse to get lower than boiling point during the whole 26 track ride of the album. The No WTO Combo - Live From The Battle In Seatle

On December 1st, 1999 Jello Biafra, Krist Novoselic, Kim Thayil and drummer Gina Mainwal performed a one-off protest concert against the World Trade Organization, and all that it stands for, at The Showbox in Seattle. History, insurrection and tear gas was in the air, as hundreds of fans and weary protestors defied the Seattle police curfew to show up and rock the house.

Tension was everywhere. No one knew if the show would even happen 'til the band walked out on stage. Biafra had been out rabble-rousing to gatherings big and small. Krist spent days filming as much of the ruckus as he could. Kim and Gina just wanted to reach the venue without being gassed and arrested. Somehow amongst it all, time was found for three rehearsals.

The plot began when Biafra and Krist were brainstorming with protest organizers for music talent to add to the events. Big names were proven "unavailable", so Krist drafted Biafra and the all-star pseudo-supergroup was hatched.

The NO W.T.O COMBO was recorded live on multi-track and mixed by Krist Novoselic and legendary grunge wizard Jack Endino; capturing the energy and 'you-are-there' ambiance of a night like no other. Artwork includes lots of W.T.O. info, photos, and a personal journal and reflections by Krist Novoselic. Biafra ties together many ideas from his spoken word albums and adds a few new ones on the opening track. The NO W.T.O. COMBO performs two new Biafra songs and two more that may be familiar. "Live From The Battle In Seattle" is just over 40 minutes in length. Roughly 15 minutes of spoken word and 25 minutes of music.

There was talk of taking the show on the road, but due to them not all living in the same city, and due to Jello's current schedule (lawsuit crap and spoken word engagements), a tour has proven elusive. As far as future recordings are concerned, that is also up in the air. (-Alternative Tentacles-)

I’d be surprised if any fan of punk rock has not heard of the infamous Mentors. They were the kings of what they called “rape rock” which translated means goofy songs with misogynist lyrics and cheap shock value. Anyone who took the band seriously was a complete and utter fool. The Mentors loved to shock, and they found a gimmick that gained them quite a reputation, and got their name out there.

The band was formed in the very early 80s by El Duce (Eldon Wayne Hoek) whose trade was working at a porno shop. He played drums and used giant dildos as drumsticks and had drunken howl vocals and would sing about peeping on woman, screwing woman, drugs, and all things debauchery. He was joined by Sickie Wifebeater and Dr Heathen Scum on guitar and bass. The three men wore executioner hoods on stage and El Duce would never fail to get a rise out of the crowd.

Musically they were one of the first bands of the era to cross punk and metal. Well, not metal so much as rock. It was later that they’d go more metal, and of course that meant they also stopped being as good as they were in the early days. This was their first record, and the first pressing of it came packaged in a clear bag with just a single double sided printed 12″x12″ insert. They referred to this as the “trash bag”. The same packaging was also used in the De De Troit 12″. It was later issued as seen above, in a real sleeve and contained a bonus live 7″.

In the later 1980s the band signed to Metal Blade Records and put out a couple albums then they’d later resort to (probably by having no other choice) putting out their own records (usually only on cassette). They once did a tour with Revolting Cocks, which was my one and only time I got to see the band play live. I was the only one in the audience who clapped for the band and liked them. All those Wax Trax kids just wanted to see Revco play and couldn’t be bothered by anything else.

El Duce even made it on a couple of those daytime talk shows like Geraldo where he’d stay in character the entire time, never breaking Kayfabe for even a second to let anyone in on the joke, and it got quite a rise out of the toothless audience, let me tell you! Sure El Duce was a drunken pervert, but from the stories I have heard from Doug Moody, he was a genuinely nice guy in real life once you got through the shield of his gimmick.

Sadly, El Duce died in 1997 when he allegedly stumbled onto some train tracks and was killed by a train. Rumors were abound of him being killed by someone hired by Courtney Love as further conspiracy in the death of her husband Kurt Cobain. Apparently El Duce was going around shortly before his death telling anyone who would listen that Courtney tried to hire him to kill Kurt. Nothing was ever proven though and the stories remain speculation and rumor.

Sadder yet, the remaining members of the band still tour as The Mentors, even though the guy who created the band and the gimmick is dead. Here I thought nothing would be more pathetic than Jerry Only’s version of “The Misfits” but those two remaining band members went and proved me wrong. I’d provide a URL for a website they put together, but that might be viewed as condoning what they are doing, and I don’t want some naive sucker to wander over there and buy something from them, thus legitimizing their exploiting and soiling of The Mentors name (if soiling it is even possible). Lard - 70's Rock Must Die

Jello and the boys are back to take a potshot at their long time nemesis, 70's rock... the music that drove Jello to punk in the first place. This MCD is only 3 tracks long and one of them is a spoof tune but if you are a fan of Jello in general, or LARD in particular, then this is a must own. The title track is a seven minute nightmarish trip through Jello's impression of 70's rock (although I honestly think the sound they achieve is much more 80's). Anthem like riffs, whiny vocals and sardonic lyrics mercilessly mock the cookie cutter redundancy of heavy guitar rock. The other two songs are classic LARD although the casual listener may find a few too many similarities to the 70's song for the joke to be effective (distortion, stop and go riffs, whiny vocals, violent drums...) GRIMPLE was formed in November 1990 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, a town cradled by the Blood Of Christ Mountains. We were raised on metal and early hardcore, but we were never afraid of listening to other types of music, like the SUGAR HILL GANG. GRIMPLE moved to Oakland, CA in August of 1991. The first GRIMPLE recording was a four song EP called, "Get Me Out Of My Van, I Have No Key." It was recorded in our Oakland practice space by Noah Landis (Neurosis) and our friend Darby. The music was melodic punk rock mixed with fast hardcore. GRIMPLE recorded its first full length LP, "Up Your Ass," in March of 1992. It was recorded by Kevin Army in San Francisco at Sound & Vision Studios, and mixed at Dancing Dog Studios in Oakland. "UP YOUR ASS," was first released by M&E Records (Murray Bowles and Eric Yee), and It was later re-released by East Bay Menace Records. Our first LP was a success, and thousands were sold in the states, as well as Japan. We completed our first American tour in 1992, and it consisted of playing small clubs, basements, and garages. It was fun, and it was a great introduction to freedom for all of us. Both of these records are now available, once again, from Prank Records. GRIMPLE'S next recording was a split LP with LOGICAL NONSENSE. It was recorded once more by Noah Landis in July of 1993 at Sergay's Recording Emporium. Our sound was still fast punk, but we were revealing more of our metal influences. This record was originally released by East Bay Menace records, but is now being pressed again by Prank Records in San Francisco. -Pat Vigil

The Gits - Seafish Louisville

The Gits formed in 1986 in Ohio and moved to Seattle three years later, just as the grunge phenomenon was becoming predominant in the Pacific Northwest.
Fronted by vocalist Mia Zapata, The Gits consisted of guitarist Joe Spleen, bass player Matthew Fred Dresdner and drummer Steve Moriarty.

Despite an antisocial disposition, The Gits eventually became the hub of a rather large musical and social scene. It was a lot of fun. The Gits somehow toured northern Europe in 1991, without the aid of either a record label or booking agency. It was a great time.

During the band's four-year tenure in Seattle, The Gits gained a reputation for their uncompromising vision and bluesy street punk aesthetic. We also earned a devoted following throughout the West Coast until Mia was murdered in 1993.

The ex-members of the band have recently compiled a posthumous album entitled Seafish Louisville which contains unreleased studio tracks, remixed versions of early recordings and live material.

Seafish Louisville captures the spirit of the band in their prime, and is available now on San Francisco's Broken Rekids.

The Gits recently reacquired the original masters of "Frenching The Bully" and "Enter... The Conquering Chicken". They have been remixed and remastered by producer Jack Endino and are being rereleased on Broken Rekids. (-The Gits.Com-)

Christ On A Crutch - Crime Pays When Pigs Die

This history is pieced together from a bunch of sources and my own memory, hopefully it's correct. Christ on a Crutch began in Washington DC in the Summer of 1983 when Jerry, Wayne, Glen and Dave performed under the name Turtles Basking in the Sun. By '84 they had taken the name Christ on a Crutch. In '85 Glen moved to the Tri-Cities the band played as a 3-piece with Jerry singing and did some recording. In 1986 Glen came back to the band as the singer and is on the first album "Spread Your Filth" on Over the Top records. Glen and Jerry both relocated in '88 to Seattle and re-formed Christ on a Crutch with ex-Diddly Squat bandmates Nate Mendel on bass and Erik Akre on drums (Erik's sister is Carrie Akre of Hammerbox fame, and Erik has gone on to play drums with a lot of bands).

When Christ on a Crutch gelled as a 4-piece in Seattle, they were completely awesome. Since my girlfriend at the time was friends with the band, I ended up hanging around partying with them a bunch and got to know them, they were totally cool guys. They played around a lot at places like Washington Hall and the Party Hall. I remember a pretty infamous show at Washington Hall where first they threw out a zillion egg cartons into the audience, then chainsawed a pumpkin on stage. The entire floor was coated in pumpkin goop and people were throwing the cartons everywhere, it was complete chaos and a super slippery pit. Another time they played a demolition party in the U-District for a boarding house that Mike from Aspirin Feast lived in behind the Wilsonian Apartments. The band's final show was at Rkcndy in 1993, this photo is of Jerry at that show. New Red Archives later released all Christ on a Crutch's material on CD.

Born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the six individuals comprising LOGICAL NONSENSE have been a band since 1989. They began playing together in their early teens and - with no member changes - they have grown and evolved, creating a singularly unique, brutal style of hardcore. The drummer, Pat, says that being together as a band became a dominant force in their lives. He attributes their learning to play music together at such a young age to their closeness and dedication to each other and the music. Known for their fast, aggressive style, Pat says their music has progressed over the last three full-lengths ('93's Dead Time LP on Very Small Records, Soul Pollution LP/CD), becoming heavier and lyrically and musically more personal... Back when we started, the music was more influence-driven. Soul Pollution, engineered and mixed by Neurosis' Noah Landis, is a touch more stripped down and driving than the more recent Expand The Hive. But it's every bit as brutal. It's the aural equivalent of drinking a bottle of Jack Daniels, inhaling enough toxic drugs to bring down an elephant and then driving 100 miles an hours round hairpin turns with nothing but a rocky cliff and the ocean to catch you if you fall.
Reminiscent of bands like Extreme Noise Terror and early Napalm Death, LOGICAL's sound has grown more and more ferocious and unrelenting with each recording. Alternative Tentacles head honcho, Jello Biafra, claims they renew my faith in the power of hardcore, and they fill the gap left by Sepultura. The lazy listener may make the incorrect assumption that heavy = metal. But there is so much more to LOGICAL's sound and to the people who listen to them. Their sound doesn't easily fit into a genre, a category or a classification. Pat agrees, I don't want to be classified. I want as many people to listen to our music as possible.

LOGICAL NONSENSE's aural attack leaves a residue upon your psyche not easily wiped clean. One listen to Soul Pollution or Expand The Hive and it will weigh heavy on your soul. With a brutal, rapid-fire verbal attack, singer Mikey Miller writes songs that revolve around a myriad of themes: corruption, social decay, despair, hypocrisy, addiction, stagnation and even aliens. Fifteen started not as a band. At first I was teaching Jack how to play guitar, and he was teaching me how to not drink. It accidentally turned into a band. We were homeless, we borrowed equipment. We put out a self-titled 7". We switched drummers. We all got hooked on speed. We put out an LP, "Swains First Bike Ride." We turned four piece and then back to three piece, losing Jack in the shuffle. We put out another LP, "Choice of a New Generation." Afterwards I kicked everybody out of the band, Jack came back. We did a couple of CDs on another label. Jack disappeared. We got sober. I found two other guys. We put out our own CD. Seven and a half years after we started, I kicked everybody out of the band, including myself. I had to deal with my 10 year stint of being homeless and 11 years of drug addiction. At the end we had some stuff left over which is on "There's No Place Like Home." We were Jack, Mikey (Monsula), Jean Jean (East Bay Mud), Mark (East Bay Mud / Fetish), Jesse (Nuisance), Nick (Steadfast), Chris (Drippy Drawers), John (Drippy Drawers / Woolly Mammoth), Lucky Dog (Crummy Musicians) and Jeff (ex-Dog Day roadie). There was plenty of politics and music and stuff, but today I think what was important was that there was a group of people who would let a homeless kid have a voice. Bye - Jeff

Wendy O. Williams - Kommander Of Kaos

Although best known as the death-defying leader of the Plasmatics, Wendy O. Williams issued several albums on her own during the 1980s. And while her earlier band was a certified punk outfit, by this stage of her career, Williams was zeroing in on the heavy metal audience — Gene Simmons had produced an earlier album, while the singer was spotted hosting a heavy metal video show on the USA cable channel. So by the time of 1986's Kommander of Kaos, Williams was knee-deep in metal. Once more, Simmons' name makes an appearance on a Williams record (not as a producer this time, but as a songwriter — "Ain't None of Your Business"), while Williams covers Motörhead's "Jailbait," and the main riff of the album's opening "Hey Hey (Live to Rock)" is quite reminiscent of Mötley Crüe's "Live Wire." While Kommander of Kaos was probably just as good as just about anything else that theatrical-minded metallists were putting out that year (W.A.S.P., Lizzy Borden, etc.), Williams was much more convincing as a Mohawk-ed punker. -all music guide-

The very first Trailer Trash show was on New Year's Eve of 1997 at the Mighty Firenze in Philadelphia, PA. The theme was Death to Disco, and the set included a couple of trashed Disco numbers ("Hot Stuff" and "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"), some originals ("What Purpose Do You Serve" and "One Brain Cell") and the band's unique interpretation of the Laverne and Shirley theme.

The band continued to play "Laverne and Shirley" and "One Brain Cell" at nearly every show until they broke up in April of 2002. Laziness, no doubt.

Along the way, there were a lot of personnel changes, a name change (to Trailer Trash UK, cuz some yokels from St. Paul, Minnesota threatened legal action), some more releases, a "Best of 1998" award for "One Brain Cell" from Tommy Conwell's LOUD N' LOCAL show on WYSP, opening slots for No Means No, Stratford Mercenaries and Stiff Little Fingers, and lots of very cool shows in Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, Stroudsburg PA, and elsewhere. -Trailer Trash U.K.-

The Ducky Boys have been gigging since team leader Mark Lind started booking Boston's sorely missed underground punk mecca, The Rat back in 1997. Since then, they have released 2 albums for GMM Records - "No Gettin Out" and "Dark Days" as well as a couple of 7 inch singles. The Ducks are the genuine definite article.

Tough-as-nails street punk from Boston's answer to Oxymoron. Taken from the same session that produced "Razors in the Night" these songs were originally broadcast over the local airwaves via WMBR in Cambridge. Self-described as 'dirty water rock and roll,' The Ducky Boys brand of Oi/street-punk often draws comparisons to Sham 69, Blitz, Cocksparrer, Social D. and the Anti-Heros. operation: cliff clavin broke up in 1999. since then we have occasionally played shows and toured 2 times just for fun, in 2004, our drummer frankie came home for x-mass and the idea of a tour came up. my roomate, spoonboy, is in a pop punk band called the max levine ensemble and we decided to do the tour together since we became friends because someone told him that his band sounded like us. somehow the idea of a benefit split 7" came up and then the idea of a co-oprative release. this record was released by 60 different people. it was an effort to express the co-op nature of the DIY scene and get everyone involved. there were a lot of problems with this record on the OPCC end. at last we got it done after lost masters, drum tracks getting eaten by the computer and the plant sending us the wrong test pressing. here it is. all new songs by each band. $3 -Plan-It-X Records-

One of my all time favorite bands ever. Not just cause they were local and I got to see alot of their kick ass shows with the likes of I-Farm and Splurge and other greats. But because the music was good.. The Bombers were from Fredonia,NY a little south of Buffalo,NY around 1998 while Kevin the Bass player was in College. This album was made by the band with the help of a nice guy that helped them record and make it for buying him a pizza. The quality isn't great, but like any great punk record it shouldn't be. The Connie Dungs - Songs For Swinging Nice Guys

Like many punk rock bands, The Connie Dungs made and sold their own cassettes before having their first vinyl EP or compact disc in the world. During 1995 not one but two virtually album-length tapes were recorded and sold by the band at shows in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio. Only a few hundred tapes were produced. Today these handmade cassettes with xeroxed j-cards and booklets are highly prized collector's items.

Nice Guys Finish Last and Songs For Swinging Lovers were exciting not only for the fans who bought them as inexpensive show souvenirs and later cranked them up and fell in love, but also for some of the people who received them in the mail as demo tapes. The Dungs almost immediately had singles out on three different underground labels, two of which were quite anxious to put this unknown band from Appalachia into the studio to record a full-length.

Even today, with The Connie Dungs regularly churning out top quality new material recorded in what is arguably America's best pop-punk studio, there is unsated demand for the band's out-of-print early recordings. While the songwriting here is certainly more basic and the recordings more raw than the band's current output, The Connie Dungs have decided to put all 25 of these tunes back into circulation again--warts and all.

Drop in the disc, close your eyes, and take a trip back to 1995. See if this shit gets you as excited as it once got me. I think it will.

The Suspects from D.C.'s first album on Torque Records. This album contains the Voice Of America Album and the S/T 7" EP.

Band started by current frontman, and in 1993 1st line-up materializes at Dulles Office Furniture in Arlington VA. After many line up changes including 5 different guitarists, 1 broken leg, and 1 punch in the face, band collapses in 1998. 2001, band founder resurrects old band name, gigs, line up scramble ensues as Sean eventually recruits all new line up which debuts in April of 2003. Band hits Staten Island, Morgantown WV & then the UK for a the 2nd tour across the seas by the Suspects dc. UK trip followed up by more rehearsals in Baltimore & a show in Hagerstown MD. Story is being continued....BANK ON THAT. 14 years on, still going strong. (The Suspects DC)

After arriving in L.A. during the height of the swingin' '60s, Rodney Bingenheimer soon became ensconced in the music scene by being Sonny and Cher's assistant doing publicity for various bands and working for ~the L.A. Times. He went out on his own eventually, opening ~Rodney Bingenheimer's English Disco and holding court with the likes of Led Zeppelin, Suzi Quatro, Iggy Pop, and T. Rex. Next was a spot on KROQ in 1976, where Rodney helped introduce L.A. to the punk sounds coming out of New York and London. His championing of punk continued through the '80s, as he played a mix of early hardcore, retro-psychedelia, rockabilly, and pop at the station. This generous collection includes highlights from his three Rodney on the ROQ albums, with the bulk of the numbers being hardcore cuts from the late '70s and early '8Os. To that end, there are early tracks by the Circle Jerks, CH 3, T.S.O.L., the Vandals, J.F.A., Social Distortion, and others, while more high-profile pop fare comes courtesy of the Bangles, Dramarama, and Nina Hagen. Topped off with Christina's over-the-top version of the Peggy Lee staple "Is That All There Is?" and Brooke Shields' spoken introduction, The Best of Rodney on the ROQ will definitely please Bingenheimer fans keen for a representative sampler of the L.A. punk scene.
